Ayurveda states that all of our three Doshas or Tridoshas — Kapha, Vata and Pitta — have to work harmoniously, along with a balanced and healthy lifestyle to increase and protect our Ojas, also known as the “Vigour of Life”. The imbalance of Kapha and Pitta Doshas in one’s body can cause oily skin.
The skin consists of sebaceous glands that produce and secrete sebum – a group of complex oils including waxy lipids, fatty acids, triglycerides and cholesterol. When this process goes smoothly, it helps your body to get rid of surface dead cells and other environmental pollutants from the pores. But if sebum is produced in excess or if the sebaceous glands overwork, one ends up with greasy skin and clogged pores.
